I walk my dog three times a day and it usually goes #2 outside, but it’s a small dog (10 pounds) and I always want to give the option of reliving itself in an appropriate place whenever it needs to. Being pad trained has been helpful for us when traveling or being away from home. Using a grate is also good because it’s a different texture than just going on the pad itself which a puppy might find confusing (some dogs start thinking that soft surface = peeing, thus pee in the carpets, etc)I have used four previous pee pad holders because my dog is obsessed with shredding paper specially when anxious. This dog ignores pads when you are present and only shreds them when you aren’t in the room or away from home. This if the fifth and final holder I think I will ever purchase. Previous ones like the ones that just hold the pad are good for dogs that just move them or play with them, not shredding machines. Other ones that had grates were not durable and my dog eventually figured out how to either pull the pads out, or just break/chew through them to get to them. I have had this for a few months and have yet to see any flaws with it. It is sturdy, thick plastic, easy to clean, does not sink under the dog’s weight (leaving wet paws) and most importantly, so far, dog proof.PD: You won’t have to clean the poo if you just save yourself the trouble and take your dog outside for #2 whenever possible. But when it’s not an option, immediately wipe the spot your dog goes on with a wet wipe before it dries (both up and below the grate even if it does’t seem any poo fell through). This thing is actually easy to clean in general since it’s just two pieces. To clean the grate, I take it in the shower once a week and wash it there. The trick is to spray foaming shower cleaner on it, then just spray it well with hot water using the spray nozzle. If you have been wiping the poo each time through the week it should be easy for the foam to do it’s work with no need to scrub. If you do need to scrub I recommend using a hand bristle brush.PDD: if your dog is only used to going on paper they might need to adjust to the idea of actually stepping on top of this and walking on the plastic. don’t give up. Just be persistent. My dog was hesitant at first, and had to be made comfortable because the size of plastic holes on this was larger than the ones they were used to stepping on. I slowly transitioned them to this over the span of a week by placing a bare pad on top of the grate, then slowly folding the pad in half over the days, placing it in a corner, until there was more and more of the grate exposed and they got the idea. Make sure to reward or praise your dog when they step on this and use it.This is an amazing product. I have tried so many others over the last six years. Some were ok but this is just excellent. My 2 tiny 5lb pups took to it without any effort on my part. So much so that I ordered another one about 2 hours after receiving the first. If you are thinking this product is expensive, and it is compared to others, think about all those the wasted pads that your dogs chewed/tore up. Those are not cheap. The last straw for me was when my female pup pooped out a 12” piece of blue plastic from a pad she decided to chew up because she was angry. So far my pups have had perfect aim and I am willing to bet that I can use the pads underneath longer than before. And best of all they can’t open the tray to get to the pad. I just pick up poop with tissue and wipe clean with a baby wipe if necessary. I would not hesitate to buy this product again as needed. I bought the bigger trays to fit my pads. Also the grid is perfect for small feet which was a concern. Not sure how easy this is to clean as I just received it one day ago but I’m sure it will be fine. Great purchase!1 month update: I’ve had these for a month now and I cannot express how useful these are. I have not had to clean up pee once from the floor. My pups are unable to tear up the pads. I am able to use the pads for longer than before as my dogs are quite finicky saving me a lot of money. I was worried they would be difficult to clean but I just use baby wipes to wipe them down and they are clean. I love love love this product. I was not paid to write this and did not receive any incentive. Just want to help other pet parents.Amazing potty set up the grate on top makes all the difference ,my girl would only use a pad two times , then the rest of the pad would be wasted because she didn’t like walking on the wet part, so this set up has been amazing. I get a lot more use out of a pad and I’m not constantly having to make sure and put down a clean pad. I put a pad on half the grate just so she knew that was where she was supposed to potty the next day I took the pad away , she used the new potty with no issue.My little Havanese doesn’t like stepping anywhere that isn’t perfectly dry on a pee pee pad. So after using her pee pad she was going to a floor mat in front of sink before we started using this. Now this keeps her feet dry so she is staying on the pad. I am not using the exact pads made for this, one slightly bigger but it keeps everything where it is meant to be. I wash the grate outside with a hose about once every week or two when needed if poop gets “caught” in the grate. Like it way more than I thought I would!Puppy (16 w) loves this and has made potty training so much easier. The surface is such a different texture than everything else at home he doesn’t get confused. He used to pee on blankets because the puppy pad was soft and he wouldn’t potty on the pad because he only liked to potty on hard surfaces. This has solved both issues and how he rarely has accidents.These are so awesome, put potty paper on the tray, wipe off and ready to go, and or rinse off. I have ordered theses for myself and they make a wonder gift for the family and friends that have gotten new puppies and they all just love them as much as we do.I am very happy with this product. I am using the XL size in the puppy whelping box for new litters!! I recommend using a spray bottle with water to help clean up #2 from the grates. If you spay the grate right after they #2 for any remnants that have smooshed through it makes later cleaning much easier!!!! I am seriously considering smaller versions for crate training. Time and $$ saver!!!Buy only this one. This is the right size for our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (large one) who loves to turn around a lot during making business. Works like a charm. Sturdy, durable, stable and...paws a dry because the tray is elevated in contrast to other brands. Thank you!!!!Good size for my 2 dogs.
